CASON Tests GPS Tracker on Black Sea
The weekend of April 11-12, 2009 represented a true adventure for
CASON’s team in Romania. Together with the Yacht Club Romania crew,
they tested the DW 418 GPS tracking device for the first time on the
Black Sea. The system enables the real-time visualization of a
sailboat’s track, speed, direction of travel, its anchorage time, its
exact position and also numerous reports and statistics, from a
web-enabled computer.
The testing took place aboard the sailboat Aldebaran (Romania), a 14 meter long ketch built in Sweden in 1946 by one of the worlds most famous designers, Tore Holm. They completed two tracks; one in the offing of the Black Sea and one along the shore between Balcic and Albena. In both situations, the technology provided for by CASON Romania offered the possibility of monitoring the tracks in real time as well as a historical analysis.
In addition to geographic positioning, the GPS system can be useful if a boat is stolen. The equipment mounted on the vessel continuously transmits its position signals, whether on land or water. Thus, the technology presented by CASON Romania increases the safety of the sailboats and of the skippers and crew.
