DW 256 GEx – Explosion-Proof Field Detection and Communication Equipment

The DW 256 GEx is basically a tool for data collection and transmission of gas volume meters and correctors. The device can connect pulse inputs to gas consumption meters (disk-housing, diaphragm, rotary, turbine), and gas-based correctors with serial line connection. The device has its own power supply, which provides a high level of autonomy and ensures years of maintenance-free operation. The device automatically reads the consumption data from the field gauges; and stores it and forward it to the central database via a GPRS communication channel.

Where to use?

Typically at the endpoints of the natural gas networks from which the measured consumption data are transferred to the consumer monitoring system through a high reliability data link. The device offers an optimal solution for reading data from measuring instruments in locations where power is not available.

Operation

Different types of correctors can be connected through a variety of communication protocols (30+) through a serial line. Depending on the settings, the typical gas consumption, pressure and temperature data and other parameters can be read out. The device can also receive pulse signals for gas consumption meters (disk-housing, diaphragm, rotary, turbine). The pulses provided by the meters are proportional to the amount of gas. The hour meter generated by the summing of the pulses is sent to the central database at specified intervals. The data is stored in the device.

Installation

The device is explosion-proof and has IP66 protection: it can be installed both indoors and outdoors. Typical application: outdoors, near the meter, wall mounted. Connecting the corrector or the gas meter with a short cable is done with a corrector specific connector.

Set up

The equipment can be easily set up with proper training. The unit can be connected via a jumper under the lid. By adjusting the correct position of the jumper, the unit automatically switches on. The status LED is turned on by the enabled status. The pulses are counted by activating the tilt switch. Before commissioning, the parameterizing software can be used to configure communication parameters. In accordance with the set communication frequency, the device sends the data to the central application.
